The Velveteen Rabbit - Writing Talk- Assigned Jan 12/21

As we listen to this well known children's book "The Velveteen Rabbit", I want you to listen to the story as a writer. Writers listen for the craft of writing.

While you listen as a "writer", I want you to consider the following questions. By using these type of questions to guide your thinking, you are participating in a kind of "writing talk".

-       Who is the story about?

-       What is the relationship between the subject and the writer?

-       What is the writer’s purpose? In order words, what does the writer want you to know about this relationship?

-       What is the one impression that the writer wants you to have about his/ her subject?

-       How does the writer show you how important his/ her subject is in the piece? Through his/ her thoughts? Through the details and description?

-       Does he/ she share memories of experiences or events that he/ she shared with the person?

-       Where is this person now?

-       What are the writer’s thoughts or feelings about this person now? * This is what we would consider someone’s insight.

Please forward your notes to your teacher, so she can see if you have an understanding of the characteristics of a memoir.
