Hamlet Parody Assignment
You will be responsible to…
1) Choose an Act/ Scene to revise to create a
parody. A parody is a literary or
artistic work that imitates the style or ideas of another work in an
exaggerated or a ridiculous way for comic effect.
2 )
To write your parody, you will change elements of the original to add humor to
the play. You must change a minimum of 5 elements.
Some elements to consider changing:
- title
-character names (if any)
- setting (place, time period)
- ideas in Act/ Scene (i.e. “Gangsta’s Paradise” to “Amish
Paradise”)
-basic situation in the Act/ Scene
-conflict in the Act/ Scene
-outcome of the situation in the play
-theme or moral of the play
-style
- tone
Your parody can take any form of writing- poem, script, short story, newspaper article. As I read your parody, I must be able to see a connection to Hamlet and that you were able to pull elements from the play. Ultimately, a parody is a fun, playful spin on a written text and that is what I am expecting to see from you. Spin Shakespeare upside down, but please remember to keep the content school appropriate.
If you watch the Simpson's media clip on the class blog, it highlights an excellent way to have fun with Shakespeare without venturing too far from the play. In the Simpson's example, they chose to cover the whole play- you are only expected to choose a Act/Scene.
